About Us

WHY WALK FOR SICK KIDS?

Since our inception in 1991, we have provided a crucial lifeline to over 30,000 families, offering them a home away from home when they need it most. By fundraising in Walk Me Home, you directly contribute to easing the burden these families face, both emotionally and financially.

Our 31-room House, located in the heart of the Randwick Health precinct, ensures families have a comfortable and supportive environment close to Sydney Children’s Hospital. This proximity not only provides convenience but also allows families to remain close to their child’s medical care, reducing stress during an already overwhelming experience.

Beyond accommodation we also run out vital Learning Program that supports sick children and their siblings, ensuring they continue their education even while undergoing treatment. We also have two Family Rooms located Sydney Children’s Hospital and Wollongong Hospital providing respite, meals, laundry facilities, and a comforting space for families to recharge away from the hospital ward.

MEET MAEVE

When Maeve was just 14 months old, her family’s world was turned upside down. After months of raising concerns, a routine appointment led to the discovery of a tumour on her left kidney. Within hours, everything changed. Maeve was rushed to hospital and airlifted to Sydney for urgent treatment, leaving her family shocked and heartbroken by how suddenly their lives had been reshaped.

During this overwhelming time, Maeve and her family found a place to stay at Ronald McDonald House in Randwick, close to the hospital. The House gave them stability when everything else felt uncertain. It was a place where they could stay together, share meals, and find moments of normality between hospital visits, without the added stress of accommodation or daily logistics.

Thanks to the support of Ronald McDonald House in Randwick, Maeve’s family has been able to focus fully on supporting their little girl. Their journey is still unfolding, but having a safe, supportive place to stay has made an incredibly difficult time more manageable, and reminded them they are not alone.

More than just a place to sleep

For over 34 years we’ve been dedicated to easing the stress and financial burden of families navigating their child’s serious medical journey, allowing them to focus on what truly matters – their child’s well-being.

Our support has also alleviated pressure on hospital resources. By enabling earlier discharges and later admissions, we have helped avoid thousands of hospital bed nights. Families miss fewer appointments and experience reduced mental stress, while hospital staff spend less time addressing accommodation and logistical concerns.

None of this would be possible without the generous support of individuals, community members, and corporate partners like you.

Thank you for making a difference.
